International success for Elixir

Elixir

Young entrepreneurs from 37 different countries competed in the JA-YE Company of the Year Competition in Berlin earlier this year, among them ‘Elixir’, a Bridson and Horrox sponsored company. Elixir won the Isle of Man Junior Achievement Company of the Year Award in March and subsequently went on to represent the island at the prestigious awards in July.

Rhian O’Leary, of QE2 High School, was one of just 11 students from across Europe to receive an Alumni Leadership Award at the JA-YE competition, picked from a shortlist of 40 strong competitors.

It’s no secret that we like to support Manx businesses but this was an exceptional opportunity to encourage younger local talent and we predict a bright future from Rhian and her colleagues in the business world.

Bowled over…

Crown Green Bowling might seem like something of a pedestrian sport for some, but spurred on by king of the green Phil Kelly, stationery sales team Scott Campion, Russel Warrender, Mark Wheeler and Charlotte formed a team for the annual Barclay’s bowling tournament last month, in aid of Manx Cancer Help.

Blessed with a warm-ish evening, they way to Noble’s Park armed with wine, lager and gin-in-a-tin (thanks Mark!).  Lack of practice and no grasp of the rules did not stand in their way and they placed a respectable 7th out of 13 teams, with Barclays coming out on top to win the coveted Bowls For All trophy.  The tournament raised £1000 for Manx Cancer Help and Team Stationery would like to thank Neil Withers at Barclay’s for running such an enjoyable event.

A special mention goes to Mark, who managed to resist the temptation for ball related innuendo throughout most of the evening, arguably our biggest victory of the event!

Staff focus – introducing some new faces

Charlotte Vaughan-Williams joined us in June this year, her first job in the Isle of Man since returning after 13 years in London. Charlotte’s background is in property marketing and copywriting and she is currently revelling in the beauty of the island and the outdoor activities it has to offer including sea-swimming, hiking and more recently fishing although has yet to see a great success in this! She is enjoying the challenge of a completely new environment and learning about new products.

Anton Bolton joined the furniture department in July. With experience in sales and marketing, Anton’s first passion is running. He has taken part in several high profile marathon events including the London Marathon where he finished with a time of 4 hours 6 minutes. He gets very little spare time, but loves to spend it with his two daughters. Anton has learned the products fast and is a calm and friendly addition to the sales team.

Big Beat for the Hospice raises over £20,000 for Cancer Research

With 3 active football referees in the office, Bridson and Horrox are no stranger to kit sponsorship. But this time last year we sponsored a very different type of kit as hundreds of local percussionists, including our own Sarah Rigby, came together for a non-stop drumming marathon in aid of Cancer Research. The event, which lasted for 52 hours, was held at the Villa Marina and members of the public were invited along to join in as the drummers played from the event’s launch on Friday 31st October, by Sir Miles Walker until 4pm on Sunday 2nd November, 2014. This month, Sarah attended the cheque presentation for the event, which raised over £20,000 for Cancer Research. Bridson and Horrox are proud to have sponsored a drum kit for this event and continue to support the charity throughout the year.

Bridson & Horrox Group strikes partnership to sell award-winning machines

The Bridson & Horrox Group has become the official Isle of Man partner of UTAX (UK) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of UTAX GmbH who are represented in over 40 countries throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

UTAX (UK) Ltd is part of Europe’s largest document solutions company and will be supplying Bridson & Horrox with its award-winning multi-functional devices (MFDs), which range from desktop A4 mono printers to high speed colour MFDs.

Darren Horrox, managing director of the Bridson & Horrox Group, commented: ‘We are delighted to become the official partner of the MFD industry leader, UTAX (UK) and this new partnership means that we will be able to offer award-winning technologies and the range of software solutions that are packed into the hugely reliable UTAX range to our customers in the Isle of Man.’

Bridson & Horrox will be offering potential and existing clients a complete print audit to calculate the existing Total Cost of Ownership and from that will be able to identify the best systems for a particular business and to tailor output in the most secure way possible.

Darren said: ‘There are plenty of potential savings. We consider every output system on its own and as part of the whole. Better use of individual systems and better integration and security within the system can often lead to greater cost, environmental and ergonomic efficiencies.

‘Thanks to our new partnership, we will be able to offer managed print solutions tailored exactly to the needs of a business. By utilising the multiple functions of the entire UTAX range, we believe we will be able to show potential clients savings of up to 30 per cent or more.’

He added: ‘The solutions also offer printer security, with PIN codes to reduce wasted print UTAX machines have also introduced tray dehumidifiers as standard to cut down on the potential for paper jams by keeping the paper in the feed tray at the right level of humidity.’

The aim of the Bridson & Horrox Group is to be more than just a print supplier, and with the recent creation of a number of strategic partnerships, Bridson & Horrox can deliver a range of print services for every size of organisation.

The partnership with UTAX (UK) is the latest development in a busy year for the Bridson & Horrox Group, which is based at Print House in Hills Meadow, Douglas. It has already announced a partnership with a leading print company, County Print, of Altrincham, near Manchester, which will enable the company to cater for even more customers.

The Bridson & Horrox Group has also converted part of its print and distribution complex at Print House into an open-plan centre for digital printing. Customers are able to drop in with one-off digital requirements, everything from extensive publishing to a single picture taken on a mobile phone. They will even be able to see the print process in action within the new layout.

The market-leading HP Indigo press is at the heart of the hub, ensuring the same colour matching and high quality as a traditional litho press. It has the ability to print nearly 7,000 sheets per hour. The digital hub team members are also experts in the design and production of bespoke signage.

Bridson & Horrox Group looks to the future

The Bridson & Horrox Group is embracing the future with its creation of a new digital hub.

The group has converted part of its print and distribution complex at Print House, Hills Meadow, Douglas, into a new, open-plan centre for digital printing.

Customers will be able to drop in with one off digital requirements, everything from extensive publishing to a single picture taken on a mobile phone. They will even be able to see the print process in action within the new layout.

Bridson & Horrox Group managing director Darren Horrox said: ‘Like all good businesses, we constantly review our operations to see where improvements can be made and to meet the changing needs of our present customers and new ones.’

‘The digital hub can be a one-stop shop for many. You can just drop in and discuss your requirements at the reception.’

Darren added: ‘Everybody holds imagery in digital format and what we are looking to do is enable them to get more from that digital image, from prints through to canvas through to posters.’

‘It is fast and it is affordable. It is the future of printing.’

‘Our market-leading HP Indigo press is at the heart of the new digital hub, which means the same colour matching and high quality as a traditional litho press is assured, but at a fraction of the cost.’

‘It has the ability to print nearly 7,000 sheets per hour, so no job is too big and deadlines will always be met.’

The group is also committed to making the digital hub as environmentally friendly as possible.

‘We’re constantly fine tuning our digital hub to reach the ultimate levels of efficiency,’ said Darren. ‘We want to enable our customers to share our commitment to being green and that means they can order what they need, when they need it – and no extra.’

Thanks to The Bridson & Horrox Group’s wide range of large format printers, it is able to design a variety of business products – everything from advertising graphics to printed wallpaper.

The digital hub team are also experts in the design and production of bespoke signage.

Darren added: ‘Bridson & Horrox has a long tradition of being a Manx company that can offer experience, expertise and customer service and that remains the case.’

‘We have never stood still and over the years have embraced changes in the market place and expanded our operations. We cater for everything from print to office stationery, furniture and business machines.’

‘We are still doing everything else that we do, but the idea of the digital hub is to allow people to maximise their digital spectrum.’
